RUBIG remains true to its motto ‘Everything from one source’: customers benefit from a joint process development and subsequently have the opportunity to make use of the coating service or to purchase a system specially designed for their needs.
What is PVD?
PVD, or Physical Vapour Deposition, is a coating technology used to produce metal-based hard layers by means of metal vapour. This vapour can react with gases and forms a thin layer offering improved wear protection on components. In addition, it is possible to create surfaces which offer improved corrosion behaviour and electrical properties as well as decorative and visual properties. As the coating temperature covers a wide range of room temperatures up to 500°C, it is possible to treat metals, ceramics, glass and plastics.
How is the layer used in practice?
In the automotive sector, PVD offers an elegant solution for reducing friction between moving parts. Surface properties such as mechanical wear resistance and reduced friction in treated components show considerable improvement with this method. PVD layers also ensure a perfect appearance with long service life in interior and body components. Compared to many conventional surface finishes, PVD is considered an environmentally friendly process.
The hardness properties of the PVD layer on forming tools improve protection against wear corrosion and build-up.
In addition, the consumer goods industry has recognised the benefits of these layers. These include, above all, the visual and aesthetic diversity and the longevity of PVD. The range of applications extends from wristwatches to water taps and door handles.
PVD coatings can be applied to interior and exterior elements in many different colours, such as gold, brass, stainless steel, nickel and black/anthracite. By applying copper layers, components can even be given antibacterial properties.
RUBIG system technology at the highest level
The MICROPULS® Lotus system impresses with its compact design and individually adjustable process parameters. Thanks to the magnetron sputtering technology, perfectly smooth homogeneous layers can be produced. Droplets are a thing of the past.
