Plasma nitriding technology - sustainable and environmentally friendly

Sustainability and environmental awareness have been written in capital letters at RUBIG for decades and the company thus has the technological leadership of the "Zero Emission" plasma technology. The technology was developed at RUBIG Heat Treatment and RUBIG Industrial Furnaces. It is applicable for steels with low to high alloy content, stainless steels or sintered metals.

Plasma nitriding provides many advantages compared to other technologies. Focusing on environmental aspects, two points are particularly worthwhile. Plasma nitriding is carried out at comparatively low temperatures (450-580°C) and process times are much shorter. Hence, it is way more energy efficient than other processes.

Moreover, plasma treated components have a longer life span, put out less scrap and require less re-working. Thereby, savings are achieved along the entire life cycle of the component. Additionally, the process gases - nitrogen, hydrogen and argon - are non-toxic. Toxic gases like ammonia are not required at all.
