Caution! The seminar will only be held in German.

Training objective: In addition to theoretical explanations, the participant is introduced to the world of heat treatment and materials science by means of practical examples and made fit for dealing with heat treatment processes. After this training, the participant knows the advantages and limitations of the individual processes; he knows component-specific selection criteria for technically and economically sensible heat treatments and he knows how this special production technology can be used specifically for component optimization and problem solutions.

Requirements: Basic technical understanding, specialized knowledge of heat treatment is not required

Training content:

  • Introduction to the topic
      • Role of heat treatment Introduction to component production
      • Expectations of heat treatment
      • Aim & purpose, tasks & benefits of heat treatment
      • Media, temperatures, process control

  • Basics of the heat treatment of steel
      • Time-temperature sequence during heat treatment
      • Classification of the main heat treatment processes
      • ZTU diagram, Fe/C diagram
      • Transformation processes, martensite formation
      • Strength increase mechanisms
      • Hardening and hardenability, hardenability scatter bands
      • Deep-freezing
      • Tempering

  • Annealing of steel
    • Basics and main processes

  • Hardening & tempering
    • in a reactive protective gas & in a vacuum furnace

  • Thermochemical treatments
    • Case hardening & carbonitriding
      Vacuum carburizing
